Education for adults

There is a variety of possibilities in the education system for the experienced leader as well as for the new leader. However, we have one basic education that all leaders should attend. We call that education the line education and it is as follows:

Staff evening

These take place in the local scout group and here the very new leader is introduced to the scout sections in the group, the other leaders and other central persons and he gets acquainted with the possibilities of the scout group.

Intro 1 & 2

The leader is introduced to the Scout Method and to the aim of the KFUM-Scouts. He also gets a basic introduction to the training system, the structure of the association and how the association can help in the daily scout work e.g. in the planning of the year in the group or by offering material for holding a service. The scout leader will also learn how to plan a scout meeting. Between Intro 1 and Intro 2 there is a hands-on period where the leader works with the things he learned during Intro 1. This period is evaluated on Intro 2 and there it will be discussed how the scout method used.

The courses take one day

The leader talk and the leader diploma

When the leader has been introduced to the leader deed he and the other leaders will meet for a 'leader talk'. Here the new leader can ask any questions that he might have and he and the other leaders can set goals for the future both as individuals and as a group.

Finally, the new leader receives his leader diploma.

Scout sections course

The leader can choose between 3 different lines on this course depending on the age group he works with. There is one for children leaders, one for youth leaders and one for adult leaders. Common for all the courses is that the leader learns about the needs and behaviour of the age groups and how to use themes and the training system in a specific age group.

At the end of the course, the leader sets a goal for his future work.

The course takes one weekend.

Leader 1 & 2

The participants work with leadership and planning on a higher level than intro 1 & 2. But there will also be an introduction to fundraising, budget planning, recruiting new members, using the internet and the KFUM-Scouts' strategy and aim.

Between leader 1 and 2 there is a practical period, which is evaluated on leader 2.

Both courses take one weekend.

Gilwell

The course is divided into three parts: a camping experience, a project and an evaluation weekend. The first part is a camp in the summer holiday or in two weekends in the spring. In this week the leaders live in a traditional camp, they make dinner over the camp fire and build up a camp using laths. During the week the participants will discuss and debate the ideas and aim of the scout movement. When the week is over the participant decide on a project that he will work on during the next 6 months. The project should involve other scouts and have the participant as a project leader. After the 6 months, the participants meet for one weekend and the different projects are evaluated. On this weekend the Gilwell beads and Gilwell Scarf is given to those participants that have passed the course.
