Scout or not?

What constitutes a scout association?

A scout association is part of the Scout Movement: a volunteer, non-political and educational movement, open for all regardless of origin, race or faith.

The Scout Movement is a so-called INGO - International Non-Governmental Organization.

In other words, a scout association is known by:

  • The way it is organized: letting children educate children in the patrol system and
  • The method it uses to educate: 'learning-by-doing' - pedagogy of experience.
  • An affiliation with The World Organization of The Scout Movement (WOSM).

Denmark has five such associations:

The Danish youth organizations KFUM, KFUK and FDF are not scout associations. They are Christian child and youth organizations that sometimes use scout activities in their work e.g. camping and outdoor activities.
